Cork

As described by the co-ordinator:

It’s informal but it seems to work most of the time. I usually have a request from someone to meet up and then let other people know. Some of the people are “regulars” and others we see every now and then.

The plan, I suppose, is to meet with other parents of gifted kids in the Cork area and beyond to chat about our kids, share experiences and help one another. We pick a date and meet up for coffee over an hour or two depending on much time people have. Sometimes kids come along but it depends on the parent. We have done trips to Fota and elsewhere which have worked out well. We meet every six or eight weeks but I know that with CTYI going on some of our parents are meeting up themselves which to me means our meetings have really worked.

Most people are living outside of Cork city so it usually a Saturday when we meet up. We tried evenings but I think most people found that more intimidating.

I don’t think there’s any secret to getting a group off the ground. Sticking with it really, it takes a while to get it going. A few times it was just me and one or other of two girls. It just grew from there then.

Should you wish to contact this group, you can do so by emailing us at gtnetworkireland@gmail.com or leave a comment on this page and we will pass on your enquiry.

Next meeting: Saturday 10th November, 1.45pm

  1. Hi,

I’d be really happy to meet with parents of talented children in the Cork area. I would love to hear other people’s experiences as well as advice on how to deal with schools, available funding and eucational options for parents of gifted children.

    Kind regards,

    Jolanda Helder
