As described by the coordinator:
The Northside support group is a group of parents of gifted children, teenagers and young adults. We first got together in 2004 with a view to offering each other support, sharing ideas and information, car pooling to information talks, and with a view to organizing some activities for the children depending on demand.
It’s a very informal group and meets on a needs basis. Generally someone will contact us saying they need some support and requesting a meeting. We then organize a suitable time and usually meet in a local hotel where we have a cuppa and a chat.
There are times when for one reason or another a person would not be able to make it to meet in person and on these occasions I am happy to have a chat with them over the phone at a pre-arranged time.
There is probably the potential for a more active group to develop but at the moment I’m not in a position to pursue that, but would be happy to support anyone who would like to move it on to another level.
Update: A new group of parents are in the throes of reviving this group and have already met once, in November 2012, to discuss what shape the group might take. If anyone would like to be involved, please get in touch.
Next meeting: An outing to Dunsink Observatory has been arranged for the evening of Wednesday 20th February. Anyone wishing to come along, or who would like more details, please email us at the address below. This invitation is not confined to members of the north Dublin group; others from further afield are welcome too. Please note that, for insurance reasons, children must be over the age of 8.
The talk on the night will be aimed at 12 year olds, but if you’re 8/over, G&T and keen, this should be a great night out. At the moment, it is booked as a private event but if we don’t fill it, numbers will be made up from the Observatory’s public waiting list. So, if you would like to come, please get in touch asap. Numbers are required by Friday 15th.
